About MAP

This test match was established to honor one of our lawn bowling leaders, Michael Ashton-Phillips, who passed away in January of 2003 due to his sudden illness diagnosed as terminal brain cancer.

The British-born Los Angeles bowler was a long standing member of the Beverly Hills LBC in Southern California. Having been a frequent winner in the Southwest Division tournaments, Michael was selected to the U.S. National Team every year from 1994 to 2001. He represented the US at the Asia-Pacific Championships, North American Challenge, and several other international tournaments. He also served as Team USA manager numerous times thereafter at international events. Michael was inducted into USLBA Hall of Fame in 2002.

In his honor, we remember him each year by the celebration of this unique event named after Michael himself called the MAP International Bowls Challenge held in his memory of the sport he loved so very much.
